If you sat for the CAPF Assistant Commandant exam last month, here’s what you’ve probably been refreshing your browser for. UPSC put the result out on 25 August, just about five weeks after the exam on 19 July — which, for a UPSC-level recruitment, is actually a pretty reasonable turnaround. A lot of their other processes drag on far longer than this.
This one’s filed under Advt No. 08/2026-CAPF, and it covers Assistant Commandant posts across five paramilitary forces — BSF, CRPF, CISF, ITBP, and SSB — with 349 posts up for grabs in total. If you applied for this cycle, I’ve put together everything below: how to check your result, the complete timeline, department-wise vacancy breakdown, and every official UPSC link you’d actually need, all in one place.

Important Dates
Here’s the full timeline from application to result, in one place:
- Online Apply Start Date: 20 February 2026
- Online Apply Last Date: 12 March 2026
- Last Date for Fee Payment: 12 March 2026
- Admit Card Released: 10 July 2026
- Exam Date: 19 July 2026
- Answer Key Released: 22 July 2026
- Result Released: 25 August 2026 (available now)
That’s roughly five and a half months from application close to result — genuinely not bad by UPSC standards, especially next to something like CDS, where marks alone can take close to a year to show up after the exam. Still, keep checking the official site for anything past this stage, since UPSC doesn’t always keep up the fastest pace once interviews and PET rounds enter the picture.
Application Fee
General and OBC candidates paid ₹200. Everyone else — SC, ST, PH candidates, and all female candidates regardless of category — paid nothing at all. Where payment applied, it went through the usual online options: debit card, credit card, net banking, IMPS, or a cash card/mobile wallet.
Age Limit (As on 1 August 2026)
Candidates needed to be between 20 and 25 years old as on 1 August 2026, with the standard UPSC age relaxation applying on top of that for reserved categories.

Vacancy Breakdown
349 posts spread across five forces, and the split isn’t even close to equal — worth knowing if you’re curious where most of the opportunity actually sits:
| Department | Number of Posts |
|---|---|
| BSF | 108 |
| CRPF | 106 |
| CISF | 70 |
| SSB | 53 |
| ITBP | 12 |
BSF and CRPF together account for well over half the total vacancies, while ITBP has comparatively very few seats. That’s fairly typical for CAPF recruitments, honestly — BSF and CRPF are simply bigger forces with larger intake needs year after year.
Eligibility Criteria
The educational qualification here is straightforward, but there’s a second condition that’s easy to overlook:
A Bachelor’s degree in any stream from a recognized university in India gets you eligible on the academic side. But CAPF also comes with physical eligibility requirements — height, chest measurement, and general fitness standards that vary slightly depending on category and gender.
That physical criteria piece genuinely matters here in a way it doesn’t for most other UPSC exams. So if you’re planning to appear in a future CAPF cycle, check the detailed physical standards in the official notification well before the exam, rather than finding out at the PET stage that something doesn’t line up.
How to Check and Download the Result
Nothing complicated here — this one’s a straightforward PDF, not a login-based portal:
- Visit the official UPSC website.
- Head to the Examinations or What’s New section on the homepage.
- Click on the “CAPF (Assistant Commandant) Result 2026“ notification link.
- The result PDF will open on your screen.
- Use Ctrl+F to search directly for your Roll Number within the document.
- Download the PDF and take a printout for your records.
- Keep checking the official website regularly for updates on the next stages.
Mode of Selection
Getting selected for CAPF AC isn’t a one-step process — it runs through four stages: Written Exam, Physical Efficiency Test (PET), Interview, and Final Merit List.
The PET stage is one candidates sometimes underestimate, mostly because it’s easy to assume clearing the written exam is the hard part. It isn’t something you can cram for in the final week — physical standards for a force like this need sustained preparation, so if you’ve made it past the written result, start PET-specific training now instead of waiting around for your interview call.
